Speaking to the Agenda Special program, Tabit Smart Agricultural Technologies Co-Founder Tülin Akın gave information on smart agricultural technologies and the opportunities they offer at Endüstri Radio.
"Farmers Take Production Decisions on Their Own"
Stating that there are 570 million farmers in the world and that 90 percent of these farmers make their own production decisions, Akın said that this rate is over 90 percent in Turkey.
Stating that 80 percent of the world's food production is produced by farmers who make their own decisions, Akın said, "In general, there are many problems in the world and in Turkey due to the global climate crisis. Of course, there are other problems, but one of the most important ones is the climate crisis. In addition to this, natural disasters, farmers' inability to access the right information, and not being able to harvest the plants at the right time cause many problems from growing the product to marketing it."
Akın stated that farmers migrate to cities due to economic problems in the villages and this situation brings other problems with it.
"The Effects of the Climate Crisis Led to Smart Agriculture"
Pointing out that smart agricultural technologies are important to prevent farmers' production from being negatively affected by the effects of the climate crisis, Akın said: "Smart technologies seemed like a luxury when they first entered our lives, but now they are a necessity for agriculture. It is necessary to be able to follow the climate accurately, control the weather, wind, temperature and humidity. For this, farmers are now obliged to use technology."
Saying that the farmer is closed to risk, not technology, Akın said, "Not taking risks for farmers also means being able to harvest the same product at the same time by planting and planting. A small mistake can change the income of the whole year. For this reason, they did not make changes in the product pattern or the work they had done. It is a negative situation, but unfortunately, they saw the effects of the climate crisis and turned to using technology."
He noted that many smart agricultural technologies such as early warning systems, digital leaf, digital pheromone traps, smart bracelets that track the stress of animals have started to be used and that all these are indicators of the necessity of use.
Akın stated that farmers have the desire to improve themselves and see the future in a good position in this sense.
