Project Objective
This comprehensive study aims to reduce feed costs in the livestock sector.
The Study We Conducted
Expansion of Pasture Area: The pasture area of 4 acres was increased to 220 acres. Thus, the grazing area of the animals was expanded and natural feed resources were increased.
Preparation of the Area: In order to create more space for plant growth in the pasture area, 1850 hours of construction equipment work was carried out for 143 days. In addition, a total of 90 hours of tractor tillage was carried out for 21 days.
Seed Sowing: 2500 kg of seeds with a 10-year life span and fertile seeds were sown. Planting these seeds correctly is important to increase the quality and yield of fodder crops.
Infrastructure and Regulations: The pasture area has been secured with a fence system and a secure gate system. In addition, shade and cooling units were installed to ensure that the animals are fed in a comfortable environment.
Sustainable Use of Forage Crops: The pasture is organized according to the rotational grazing method. This method ensures that the plants are grazed regularly and grow efficiently.
Water Resources: 6 automatic troughs providing clean water were added to meet the water needs of the animals.
For the first time in Turkey, a Pasture Management Union consisting of villagers was established for a pasture in a metropolitan area and the management of the pasture was transferred to this union in 2018.
Conclusion
As a result of the work carried out in 4 years, 2 million 300 thousand TL worth of meadow grass was obtained from the pasture area. Thanks to this valuable production, the feed costs of livestock enterprises have been reduced and they have become economically stronger. At the same time, an environmentally friendly and sustainable animal husbandry model has been created.
