Project Objective
The main objective of the project is to increase productivity and production in fig cultivation. By using the trellis training method and other innovative techniques, the aim is to obtain more products in a shorter period compared to traditional fig orchards and provide an efficient farming method.
Benefits
- The trellis training method allows for 10 times more product yield per unit area, significantly increasing productivity.
- Pruning and directing the plants result in more organized and easy maintenance, saving time and effort for the producers.
- Plants producing shoots to find sunlight contribute to increased photosynthesis capacity, leading to healthier and higher-quality products.
- Sideways growth of trees with new methods enables effective space utilization and increases the overall product quantity.
- The trellis training system allows for earlier fig harvest compared to traditional methods, providing economic advantages and increasing the income of producers.
Our Accomplished Work as TABİT
- We started implementing the model, which was developed as part of the Research and Development (R&D) study by the Aydın Fig Research Institute and first tested in the institute's garden, in the Smart Village.
- We planted 1014 trees in a 6-acre area.
- We regularly monitored the performance of the Smart Village model in the field, made necessary adjustments, and optimized it.
- We shared the results we obtained and engaged in knowledge sharing with other agricultural experts and producers.
Results
Mehmet Turgut's Achievements with the Trellis Training System in Izmir"I went to Aydın and saw it on-site. Then, I applied it here. Now, we have started to harvest the product. It was a risky production. We thought, 'What will we do if it doesn't work out?' We took the risk, but the result is excellent. People are very surprised when they see it. They say, 'I will do my orchard like this too.'"
